Duncan Centre Conservatory Philosophy
We understand education as the awakening of a person to discover their own sources.
The Duncan Centre Conservatory is guided by the belief that decisive moments in human life continue to unfold in specific, concrete places, despite all changes in life circumstances. The Conservatory aims to be such a place—a place where teaching is driven by an irresistible need to pass on to students what is precious, which in turn becomes precious to those who learn. Each student receives it differently, in their own way.
Through our teaching, we aim to avoid offering students a specific type of dance—whether in terms of methodology, genre, trend, or style. Instead, we provide the tools to navigate the dance profession in its full breadth—not ready-made solutions, not a finished form.
Our primary goal is to strengthen the autonomy of each individual student. An autonomous person is confident, self-critical, does not forsake solidarity, and can be useful to society through their profession at every stage of life.
We perceive dance as a way of life, emerging from a holistic understanding of the human being. The awareness that dance awakens dulled senses, stirs suppressed instincts from ancient times, heals both body and spirit, encourages a positive disposition, explores even the most hidden corners of the human body and soul, and possesses many other values leads us to the conviction that dance transforms the quality of life. For us, teaching dance is therefore not merely a practical matter, but a matter of values. And values are decisive.
